MUSEO AGUILAR Y ESLAVA

Museo Aguilar y Eslava (in Cabra) is housed in the historic building belonging to the Fundación Aguilar y Eslava of Cabra (the Aguilar y Eslava Foundation of Cabra.) It was founded in 1679 and has been supporting education and culture since the end of the 17th century.

This building shares a history with the secondary school of the same name. It is a unique case nationally, as it is one of the historic secondary schools in Andalusia and one of the first in Spain, which came out of the Real Colegio de la Purísima.

The symbiosis between the foundation and the secondary school is one of the peculiarities that has allowed for the creation of this exceptional museum which holds a comprehensive, varied exhibition of important, valuable scientific collections.

Exhibitions in the Museo Aguilar y Eslava in Cabra which stand out are: Botany, Zoology, Mineralogy, Paleontology and Geology.

It is an interesting tour through the history of the last three centuries, in which the main focus is on culture, education and teaching. The library and historical archive also stand out, as well as the building itself with its wonderful entrance and glassed-in patio.

The Fundación Aguilar y Eslava has been working for years to make one of its most important projects, the Museo Aguilar y Eslava, a reality. In addition to a rich educational, historic, artistic, documentary and emotional heritage, we can visit the Museo de Pasión (the Museum of the Passion of Christ), with a very special route, bringing each visitor closer to “La Primera Semana Santa de la Historia” (the first Holy Week in history.)
